A Gift From God

Motherhood is the most amazing experience. I love Baby so much that I have a hard time putting it into words. But even as much as love him, since he was placed on my tummy for the first time after his birth, I've had a very real sense that he is not "mine". God has just given me the wonderful opportunity to look after him for a little while. Sometimes I look at him and do not see a little helpless baby, but a mature and free-thinking person. It's hard to explain but sometimes I feel that he could have an older and wiser spirit than me. I just hope that I can be the mother that he is worthy of and that I can teach him about his past and his amazing potential. When I think about the responsibility, I get overwhelmed. I'm so glad I have the gospel in my life to help me put things in perspective and that I have a guideline for this calling.

I love my Grandmas!

Baby's grandmas love him so much and I'm sure he loves them back just as much. I think my mom's favorite thing to do is spoil him already even though he's just three months old. I'm so glad he has such great grandparents close by since I didn't have that experience in my life.

Thumb Sucker

So Baby is a thumb sucker! I know that it's not the best for him, but it is sooooo dang cute! I thought he might be because he was in one of his ultrasound pictures, but after he was born he didn't suck his thumb. It wasn't until a couple of weeks ago that I heard smacking noises coming from his room that I discovered he had found his thumb. He's so noisy at it that it wakes us up sometimes. Below is a video of him doing it during a nap. If you turn up your volume, you might be able to hear how loud he is.

Baby's "Woobie"

I finally finished the blankie I wanted to make for Baby to match his car seat and stroller. I originally was planning on making it during my two-week vacation from work before his due date, but since he decided on making his apparence two-and-a-half weeks early one day after work, I didn't get the opportunity until just recently to get around to it. It's not perfect but it's from the heart. It's big, very soft, and very warm. Daddy's childhood blanket was his "woobie" so I imagine that is what this is going to become for Baby. One thing down and many more projects to go including finishing his baby scrapbook.

Outdoor Wonders

Daddy and I feel like we didn't get much of a summer what with having the baby and all so we've been trying to take full advantage of the good weather we have left by spending our time outside as much as possible. One weekend we went to Mountain Dell Reservoir and took turns taking our raft out for a spin, another weekend we hiked to Twin Reservoirs up Big Cottonwood Canyon, the weekend we watched our neice, we walked around Silver Lake, and this past weekend we hiked up to another Silver Lake in American Fork canyon with Daddy's brother. We also had a barbeque in the park with Daddy's family and a barbeque up Mill Creek Canyon with mine.

Baby Wears Many Hats

So I went shopping with Baby and tried many different hats on him (I wanted to get him one for the colder weather). He looked so cute I had to get three of them. I have to have some way to dress him up since I can't put him in frilly dresses or curly bows! My only options are cute hats and shoes. I also tried some halloween costumes on him, and although they were adorable, none of them were quite right. I finally found "the one" but I don't want to post it yet because I want it to be a surprise :)

An Outing at the Garden

We went to Thanksgiving Gardens for Two Dollar Tuesdays. I LOVE going there - it is so absolutely gorgeous! It's hard to say what my favorite part is but I really like the Secret Garden because it looks just like the one in the old TV Special I watched as a child. Baby was wearing his cute little shoes and hat.

Our House

So I wanted to post some pictures of our house first of all, because it was a disaster when we moved in and it is truly a work of art to see it transformed, and secondly, because I'm very proud of my "interior decorating on a budget" skills. Of course, if I had all the money in the world, I could make it much cuter, but as for DI finds and "free" items on the side of the road, I must admit it's not too shabby (well, maybe a little "Shabby Chic"). Almost everything had to be changed when we moved in - the carpet, paint, light fixtures, and appliances. We even repainted and stained the banisters. I chose yellow for the majority of the walls and was a little shocked when we got it up. I thought it was going to be overwhelming, but with the contrast of the furniture, it turned out to be the perfect shade. It makes the house so bright and happy - especially during the winter. It was a lot of hard work but it was also a lot of fun. I'm glad we bought a house we could customize. It's definitely not finished yet, but I would appreciate anyone's comments.

Swiss Days

We made the annual trek up to Swiss Days and I thought this photo was really cute of Daddy and Baby. I love seeing all the creative stuff (or "crap" as my husband likes to call it) people come up with for their booths. Since I'm not working anymore, I had a brilliant idea that I wanted to have a booth at the next Swiss Days. I talked to my sister about it and she wants to do it with me. Not exactly sure what we want to sell yet, but I think it will be along the lines of baby/kids/maternity stuff (especially boy stuff since there wasn't a lot there for them). Let me know if you have any ideas!

Announcing the Birth of Alexander Eric McFarland!

He's here! Our little baby prince is finally here! Our Baby was born on June 24th, 2008 at 10:08am. He was exactly eight pounds and was twenty and a half inches long. He has deep blue eyes, golden-blonde hair and the fullest, most kissy Angelina Jolie lips in the whole world. He is perfect and we have been waiting for him for so long. He was born two and a half weeks early on his Mommy's birthday (not planned). I couldn't have asked for a better gift. Labor was an adventure all of it's own and the first two weeks were VERY hard. I don't know how anyone in their right mind would have a natural birth. Things have settled down now and Baby is almost three months old!!! He already looks different and he grows soooooo fast! He has his Daddy's calm temperament (thank heavens!) and is the sweetest little thing in the whole world! We thank Heavenly Father every night for blessing us with this little piece of heaven.
