So Alex is 16 months old - and still isn't walking! He seems so close but just doesn't want to let go. I hate having to lug his 25+ lbs. around everywhere, he's ruining all his pants and shoes he doesn't even fit into yet, and he can't play on playgrounds very easily. He better be walking by the time it snows because I am NOT cleaning up squishy, wet, dirty pants too! He always seems a little behind physically - he took longer to sit up, crawl, and now walk than other babies the same age.
However, his mind seems to be as sharp as ever and his vocabulary is steadily growing everyday. At this point he can say (at least a close version to) Mommy, Daddy, Ball, Book, More, Nose, Eye, No, Yeah, Bye, Hi, OK, Fishy, Num num, Car, Wow, Drink, Amen, Roar, Meow, and Apple Juice, Peek a Boo, and Thank you (and yesterday he even said "Alex" after I said it!). He might be able to say some words in Chinese but I wouldn't know it (Eric is trying to teach him Chinese). As a first time mom, I can't help but worry about him walking but it makes it a little easier to hear that Eric's coworker's son is a week older than Alex and isn't walking either - AND his mom is a PEDIATRICIAN. Apparently, if they walk before they're two they're fine. I worried about him crawling too and he eventually did that. I probably baby him too much. I also heard that they did some crazy study after the 72' Olympics and found that a high majority of the athletes had been late walkers so maybe Alex will turn out to be athletically gifted afterall! Who knows?
