New Year, New Resolutions

Didn't quite make it to midnight . . .

I thought that I would start off the New Year with my resolutions.  I'm terrible at resolutions so hopefully putting them down for all the world to see will help me reach my goals.

2012 Resolutions
1. Post on my family blog AT LEAST once a month (I'm posting my January post on February 1st so that proves how bad I am at this)
2. Do a service project once a month (January's was cleaning the Temple)
3.  Kick the DC ADDICTION (mind you, not give it up altogether)
4.  Watch my language (this includes my occasional "Shut Up??!!" in a "Clueless" type of voice)
5. Work out AT LEAST once a week
6. Have FHE once a week (Sundays instead of Mondays work best for us)
Ok - so now that's out of the way lets move on to what happened in the month of January.  It started out with our traditional trip to Park City for New Year's Day.  It happened to be a beautiful, altogether too-warm-for-our-bundling type of day.  We had fun eating at a restaurant, riding in the trolley, visiting galleries,  and taking in all the sites - that is until the youngest member of our family had to remind us of his importance and have the biggest poop of his career.  I'm not kidding you - there was poop everywhere!!! All over both legs, up his back, everywhere!  I exhaussted our wipes stash, his burp cloth, and his clothes to wipe it up and STILL had to ask someone in the bathroom to wet some paper towels for me.  It made our experience a little crappier than we expected (pun intended) but all-in-all it was an exciting day.  Hopefully that start to the New Year is not a reflection of how the rest of the year will be!
We also went to the car show to explore our options for our upcoming large purchase (The GM Lambda's won out btw) and Alex loved riding in the little Jeeps and watching the amazing death-defying feats of the big Jeeps.
Eric started his new job which was just in time since our furnace decided to give up the ghost.  We were happy to be able to put in a new 96% efficient model along with throwing out the swamp cooler and finally getting Central Air!!!  No more squeaking at night (at least from that - wink wink.  Eric loves his new job and is doing very well.  Eric also started the dreaded studying for the 3rd level of the CFA - hopefully for the last time.  He schedule consists of studying 20 hrs. a week from January until June, so I essentially become a single mom during that period.  This is proving to be much more of a trial with 2 kids instead of one since I am now out-numbered. Hopefully it will all be worth it when he is done.
On a sad, but good, note - we gave Coconut away :(  She was an amazing dog but with the new baby, I felt overwhelmed and didn't have the energy to give her the love she deserved.  I would find myself getting very upset at her for wanting attention and that wasn't fair to her.   I also have to admit that I could not stomach the ENORMOUS amounts of hair she left lying around the house.  I couldn't imagine my little baby learning to crawl amoung a carpet of fur.  We found a terrific family in our ward who was grateful to let her become a part of their family.  They have two other dogs she plays with and they are very much "Animal People."  I'm glad I know she's somewhere she's loved and we can see her whenever we want!  It's a win-win situation.  I hope Alex will forgive me someday although he seems fine with it right now.
Other than that, we did the occassional McDonalds run, visited the aquarium and Dinosaur Museum, and watched too much TV in order to pass the winter blues.  Looking forward to some fun plans in February.
